An NGO’s Report Detected Run-offs’ Contraventions

In its first report, the Egyptian Association for Social Participation Rise observed infringements committed during Saturday’s run-offs of the ongoing parliamentary polls. The most remarkable violations were the denial of access to voters and monitors of human right organizations besides the detentions of a large number of Moslem Brotherhood’s members and supporters.
 
In Shobra el-Khama constituency, some polling stations started its work an hour later. In addition, the heavy security presence was very apparent. Policemen prevented voter from casting votes. Some clashes were erupted between the police troops and electorate.
 
In el-Fayoum, the report cited many contraventions. In Sansor constituency, for example, polling centers were delayed in spite of the high turnout. Some Brotherhood’s backers, on the other hand, were taken into custody. The association’s reporters were denied access to polling stations.  In el-Mashrg village, the home village of the Brotherhood’s nominee, was fraught with thugs who hindered voters and monitors of human right organizations. The polling centers no. 6, 7 were suspended for a long time.
 
In Suez governorate, the report traced many violations. Dozens of the Brotherhood’s supporters were arrested. Policemen cordoned the streets leading to polling stations. The access was granted only to voters who have electoral cards. In el-Ganian area, clashes were broken out when policemen headed monitors of human right organizations off.
