The Aqsa Foundation for maintenance of Islamic holy shrines in Palestine on Tuesday disclosed that the Israeli demolition of the road leading to the Maghareba gate targets seizing parts of the Aqsa Mosque.

The Foundation, in a statement, said that the Israeli demolition scheme would take five years and would wipe out ancient Islamic buildings and relics adjacent to the western wall of the Aqsa Mosque, which are part and parcel of the holy site.

It said that the Israeli scheme, which also aims at building a military bridge and Jewish synagogues, would bare the Buraq gate, which is underneath the Maghareba gate thus facilitating the occupation of large parts of buildings under the holy site.

The foundation said that it acquired maps and documents of that scheme, which revealed that 18 meters of the walls around the Maghareba gate would be affected in the demolition.

The military bridge would be erected on 16 huge pillars, it said, adding that the scheme would allow easy, uninterrupted access to the buildings under the Aqsa Mosque and facilitate confiscating them.
