Lawyers on strike in the Kafr El-Zayyat court announced Monday, April 20, the tentative suspension of their sit-in after Buhayra Security Manager General Magdy Qamar promised to offer an official apology to their colleague Ahmed El-Gizawy who was assaulted by a police secretary from Koum Hamada police station in Buhayra. The lawyers, who add up to around 300, threatened to resume the sit-in inside Koum Hamada prosecution if no solution for this crisis was reached calling for the trial of the police secretary for his assault on their colleague for merely asking to see the records of one of his clients via the police’s computer who ordered him out of his office. Even after El-Gizawy identified himself to the police as a lawyer, the police became furious and started insulting, beating, and assaulting him with the help of a few investigation agents inflicting severe injuries on him. Gharbiyya Lawyers Head Galal Shalaby had presented a detailed memo of the incident to the First Attorney General of Alexandria and Buhayra prosecutions who, in turn, contacted General Qamar to solve the issue. In response, General Qamar promised to offer an apology to their colleague and interrogate him for the report that was filed against him by the police secretary who also charged El-Gizawy of assaulting him. Gharbiyya lawyers had accused investigation authorities of conniving with the police secretary who was summoned by prosecution at night, interrogated, and released, all in the absence of the victim or his representative. |
