The chairman of the Muslim Brotherhood movement, Mr Mohamed Mahdy Akef called for urgent reconciliation between the people and governments hoping that this would salvage the security of the nation and its collapse. Akef asserted that the holy month of Ramadan emphasized the significance of piety and the endorsing of truth, justice, equality and freedom claiming that, "The repressive regimes must abandon implementing the will of the military's despotic power".

In his weekly message titled "Ramadan cultivates good manners” he asserted that the divine laws of Islam covered all aspects of life in which man made laws failed to cover asserting that if followed would guarantee success. The achieving of noble qualities and good manners is one of the objectives of Islam for which the prophet Muhammad was sent to instill in the believers where the prophet Mohamed (PBUH) said “I have been sent only for the purpose of perfecting good morals.”

Akef stressed that the main purpose of fasting is to awaken piety in the hearts and instill good manners in the soul. Fasting is the tool in accessing the road to fine conduct where Muslims abstain from self-appetites and self-desires and learn self control.

Akef  underscored that "Ramadan is a chance to remind ourselves as a nation of the Palestinian cause in general and Alaqsa mosque in particular". The nation must remain permanently vigilant where it is obliged to rush and take up arms in supporting and safeguarding our steadfast and patient people in the West Bank and Gaza Strip who continue providing grave sacrifices".
