GAZA, -- Dr. Ahmed Bahar, the first deputy speaker of the Palestinian legislative council (PLC), hailed Sunday Philippe Marini, a member of the French senate, for calling on European states to end the political isolation of Hamas and the Israeli blockade imposed on the Gaza Strip.
Dr. Bahar stressed that many European and American politicians and lawmakers adopt the same position of Marini and believe that the solution lies in recognizing the political weight of Hamas in the Palestinian arena and being open to it.
The Palestinian lawmaker urged the European Union and the American administration in light of this position to reconsider their unfair policies towards the Palestinian cause in general and the political and economic siege imposed on Hamas and Gaza people in particular.
In another context, Hamas lawmaker Abdelrahman Zeidan said Sunday that former Israeli war minister Shaul Mofaz’s talk about a Palestinian state with temporary borders and his intention to negotiate with Hamas reflect a crisis within Kadima party.
In a press release, Zeidan emphasized that Hamas does not beg for negotiations with Israelis, but it demands the Israeli occupation to recognize the Palestinian people’s rights before anything else.
The lawmaker noted that such talk came from a person who lacks statesmanship and does not have the authority to implement what he says.
