The Muslim Brotherhood's online petition has seen the number of signatures rise to over 21,000 by Egypt ’s largest political opposition group and their website' visitors. Former IAEA chief Dr. Mohamed ElBaradei, 68, has asserted that it is imperative that the Muslim Brotherhood, which has hundreds of thousands of supporters, be included in the political process He highlighted that he needs the Brotherhoods support in order to reach one million signatures on the petition to pressure the regime for change. The seven reform demands on the chartered petition concentrate mainly on ending the emergency laws, which have been in force since President Hosni Mubarak, 82, secured power in 1981. Other demands included complete Egyptian judicial supervision and international monitoring of elections; and the allowing of Egyptian expatriates abroad to vote; in addition to amendments to the constitution to relax restrictions for independent candidates to run for president. |
