The National Council for Human Rights called for the immediate released of Eng. Khairat Al-Shater, Deputy Chairman of Muslim Brotherhood, Hassan Malek and other detainees who were tried before special courts during the ousted Mubarak's era.

NCHR pointed out, in its annual report on the human rights situation in Egypt in 2010, that the arrests over the past year were mainly focused on political activists, particularly activists from the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) who were targeted on a bigger scale during the elections of the Shura and Parliamentary elections.

The report added that the arrest of members of MB continued systematically during the period the report is covering in all the different provinces in Egypt. Sources of the MB indicated that security agencies had detained about 6,000 of its activists in 22 provinces during the year 2010.

The report criticized the unfair trial of the five prominent figures in the muslim world before the Supreme State Security Emergency Court and the unjust sentences against each of: Dr. Ashraf Abdel Ghaffar: Assistant Secretary-General of the Doctors Syndicate, Dr. Wagdy Ghoneim: Islamic preacher, Awad Mohammed AlQarni: Saudi Islamic preacher, Dr. Osama Soliman and Dr. Ibrahim Moneer.

The report stressed that during the parliamentary elections in 2010  many violations took place since accepting nomination where dozens of candidates were prevented from applying for candidacy, especially those from the  MB. Hundreds of MB supporters and other independent candidates were also arrested during the electoral period.
