The Syrian rights activist Haitham Al-Malih said in statements to Ikhwanweb that the regime of Bashar al-Assad might resort to chemical weapons to suppress the revolution after failing to stop the demonstrations using all criminal means, including guns, bombs and tanks. Al-Malih pointed out that the people of Syria adhere to their unarmed peaceful struggle, and they will succeed as they are continuing this path despite their great tragedy that is aggravated by the world's silence against the massacres in Syria committed by Bashar’s thugs. Al-Malih added that "Bashar al-Assad is the exact extension of his father, Hafez Assad, who is the biggest criminal offender in Syria’s history, having the same repressive, ugly and mean style of massacring and killing the people during the last century. The ongoing revolution is the only way to get rid of this brutal dictator."
