In a statement to Ikhwanweb, Dr. Mahmoud Ghozlan, Muslim Brotherhood leader, said he will discuss the invitation said to be issued by the Egyptian army for a national dialogue, and will determine whether to attend, in the Guidance Office meeting Wednesday.

He pointed that, if true, the army invitation would be for a societal meeting, not a political dialogue, as that is a function of the President’s, which he has already done and continues to do. The army, however, does not get involved in political matters.

Meanwhile, an armed forces spokesman said that the army invitation is indeed a call for Egyptian leaders from across the full spectrum of Egyptian society, and will not be an official national dialogue, but a reassuring message to the great Egyptian people.

For his part, Dr. Murad Ali, media spokesman for the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP), said the party would welcome the invitation of societal outreach issued by General Abdel-Fattah Al-Sisi, General Commander of the Armed Forces, pointing that the FJP did not receive any official word of it as yet.

In a statement, he said that the FJP would certainly welcome the invitation, if it is indeed for a societal gathering, because it is keen to improve the general atmosphere in Egypt and remove the tension in the Egyptian street.

Colonel Ahmed Mohamed Ali, military spokesman, said that Abdel-Fattah Al-Sisi, the defense minister, did call for a meeting of a humanitarian nature, for national harmony and cohesion, that should bring together partners in the homeland, in the presence of President Mohamed Morsi.

Earlier, President Mohamed Morsi held a meeting with his deputy Mahmoud Makki and General Abdel-Fattah Al-Sisi, Commander of the Armed Forces and Minister of Defense and Military Production, where it was agreed that the invitation would be issued by the armed forces with the aim of improving relations among all spectrums of Egyptian society and to send a reassuring message to the Egyptian people.
