Sheikh Tayseer Al-Tamimi, the chief Islamic justice in Palestine, has denounced the Israeli occupation authorities (IOA) for ordering the closure of the Ibrahimi Mosque in Al-Khalil for the fourth time during the holy Islamic fasting month of Ramadan at the pretext of allowing Jews to celebrate religious festivals in it.
The fourth closure in two weeks on Sunday and Monday would allow Jews to solely enjoy offering religious rites inside the Mosque.
Tamimi, who is also the Imam of the Ibrahimi Mosque, charged that the IOA’s repeated closure of that Mosque constituted a flagrant violation of Muslims’ right of worship and a prelude to convert the Mosque into a Jewish synagogue.
He affirmed that the Ibrahimi Mosque was a purely Muslim shrine that neither Jews nor any other had the right whatsoever to control.
The Sheikh asked the international community to seriously and swiftly pressure the Hebrew state to halt its “religious terrorism” being practiced against the Palestinian people, “which would never have happened if the international community did not remain silent vis-à-vis such practices in the first place”.
