State Security Court in Zagazig Monday 12-6- 2006 released prominent MP figure Dr. Hassan el Hayawan who faced charges of belonging to an "illegal" organization i.e the Muslim Brotherhood .
Meanwhile, more than ten thousands of the Central Security forces surrounded a peaceful demonstration today in Sharkeya governorate, where more than two thousands MB members showed up in support of Dr. Hassan el Hayawan. The security forces detained two hundreds and prevented demonstrators from reaching the court premises in the town of Zagazig. The forces also sealed off all roads leading to the court building and used tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse demostrators. Several protestors were reported savagely beaten by police clubs.
Dr. Ismael said " What is happening is a serious violation of constitution and human rights, and a consistent policy adopted by the government facing latest popular protests" Dr. Ismael wondered how a simple march in solidarity with Dr. el Hayawan has turned into a battle field by the security agencies in a matter of seconds"
Dr. Ismael affirmed that the aim of this tough stance by the authorities is an attempt to silence any voices of reform in Egypt.
Dr. Hassan el Hayawan, 47, is a pulmonary (lung) medicine professor at the Zagazig Faculty of Medicine, a member of Freedoms Committee of Sharkeya Physicians’ Syndicate, and a prominent MB figure with an extensive syndicative and political record . He was kept in solitary confinement at Tora prison for six month and was referred by the prosecution to the criminal court. It is the first time the authorities have embarked on such a step in its campaign against the Muslim Brotherhood. |
